Upper Ferntree Gully Station car park – start of works notice March 2022
To support the delivery of new and upgraded car parks at this site and the planning approvals process, we undertook a process of community consultation to ensure that the views of local residents and station users were considered.
We invited local residents and interested stakeholders to provide feedback on the designs as well as key local values we should consider through detailed design. . The public consultation period was open from 9 August until 24 August 2021, with feedback captured through the Victorian Government’s online engagement platform Engage Victoria, as well as mail and email.
A key theme was safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in the local area. This included traffic flow before entering the car park, and ensuring the car park is safe for pedestrians and cyclists while moving to and from the train station. Providing adequate lighting and CCTV systems at the site was also included.
You told us that the design and visual appearance of the new car park should be in line with the look and feel of the local area including greenery and planting, avoiding bright colours and enhancing the appeal of the area through urban design. You also expressed a preference for car spaces to be adequate in size and retention of existing ingress and egress for vehicles and pedestrians.
There was also interests and concerns about general construction activities, management of noise and vibrations.
Feedback was included in a public consultation summary report which informed the Minister for Planning’s assessment of the projects under Clause 52.03. Feedback was also provided to the design and project teams for consideration for the final design.
